This is usually not the place where we take anything seriously, but Gabriel Long asked this recently: "Problem a cat is brought in for: "He's sleeping a lot." When i was reading this I was wondering what vets say to this. Do they just look over them charge them, and say nothing is wrong, or do they say thanks for wasting my time have a good day." My answer: "You bring up a valid point, which I can only respond as to how I approach such things. While, yes, it can be a funny thing for a client to bring a cat in for considering cats can sleep 18 hours in a day (similar to the Boston Terrier that's brought in because he breathes funny - ie. like a Boston Terrier), I still approach it from the "is there something wrong?" point of view. You never want to just dismiss something as silly and I never consider it a waste of time. You take the temperature, do an exam, and history and depending on circumstances and age, etc. possibly offer bloodwork and such. The website is not meant to be anywhere near how we deal with things seriously, just on those things that are on the surface funny or are instinctually humorous or exaggerated. Thanks for your thought!" - Dean Scott

(after a long debate, the client decided that she would allow us to take her sick dog's temp rectally, then she spit out this gem)
"How do I need to treat him differently, now that he's gay?"

Here is my favorite conversation that I've had:
Client: "My cat got spayed when she was 2 pounds, but I'm worried she might have gotten pregnant when she got out. Do you think she was too little for surgery?"
Me: " The uterus is removed during spay."
Client: "Well, I was just worried because she was so little."
Me: "They don't grow back."
Client: *relieved look*

Good lesson to remind us all that not all of our clients are educated in the things that are so common to us. Thanks for the smiles :) - DrJ

I'm always a fan of folks calling to get their dogs their "bordello" shots and have them "spaded." I keep picturing garden implements as surgery tools, and that's just wrong. :) - Emily
